Eventfull history
|
The Bauhof in Castelbello has been owned by the noblemen of Castelbello
since the 13th century, who – as ministry officials of the Counts of
Tyrol – were responsible for jurisdiction in the Lower Vinschgau Valley
until the early 19th century.
The Bauhof hotel was once one of the farms, which were owned by a
clerical or secular landowners and which were run as a separate
business by an employee. These farms mainly farmed the land and the
harvest products were then traded while the livestock only was for the
personal use.
History can still be experienced at the Bauhof:
You can discover the secrets of the house in the most remote edges,
which you will be shown by the host during a guided cellar visit in our
own wine cellar from the 12th century. Experience a private museum
within the old stone walls and listen astonishingly to the interesting
stories from former times.
We can’t, of course, take you back to the Middle Ages, but we can take
you back to the beginnings of car manufacture, while making an
excursion with our nostalgic coach (see picture).
Visit the restored so-called Bauhofer - Baumandl mill in working order
and watch the host when grinding grain. Tradition becomes an
experience.
Watch behind the scenes of the distilling of spirits:
The distilling of spirits takes place once or twice per year. The
passion for fine spirits can be found in every small glass – no matter
if you prefer spirits made from the typical local apricot or simply a
schnapps.
